Hospitals are required to offer a data interface called FHIR. It lets an app you approve download your records from that hospital. That’s useful plumbing — but it doesn’t give you control:
- Each hospital controls its own gate. You grant permission app by app, hospital by hospital — there are no standing rules you set once.
- The hospital decides which apps are allowed, and can cut them off.
- Nothing follows you. Switch providers and you start over.
- There is no place for YOUR policies — who may ask, what they get, what needs your approval.
MAIA uses FHIR where it helps (your MAIA can act as one of those approved apps to fetch your hospital records) and adds what FHIR leaves out: one place where your records live under rules you write.
